RWAS as good as ever

Posted by Linda on 05/18

The Builth Wells show held last weekend (15th and 16th of May) was as ever, a brilliant show.  From a company’s point of view, it is an ideal show to get us to the heart of the smallholding world.  From a financial point of view, not so good as we end up spending all our profit.  This year, we brought home a peahen, three dutch bantams, strawberry plants, ducks to name a few. For me the auction is the worst, I just want to buy up everything.

On the Saturday, I did a piece on Rural Channel, the Sky channel aimed at all things rural (obviously!!).  This is the second year, I have appeared on this channel but as like last year, I probably won’t have the nerve to watch myself.

Brilliant show and we look forward to sponsoring the Supreme Championship again next year.

I better start thinking now about the Highland held at the end of June.

Bidgiemire has spot on Radio Leicester

Posted by Linda on 05/10

We were pleased to be ask to be interviewed on Radio Leicester during the Leicester Show. Amongst the things which were mentioned was the current situation with Swine Flu and how it would affect people buying pigs.  At the moment, we haven’t seen a drop in people buying arks or the start up kits so let hope it doesn’t go the way of bird flu where hundreds of chicken related business were badly affected.

Mangalitza soon to arrive at Bidgiemire

Posted by Linda on 04/22

I have bowed down to pressure from Graham and bought two Mangalitza boars. We are actually going to buying in two of all the traditional and modern breeds over the next year or so,  Mainly because we really want to get to grips with exactly how different the taste in meat is of the different breeds,  the texture and how the meat cooks.  It also allows our customers to see the different breeds when they visit us. Often, especially up in Scotland not all the breeds are available to see and many customers buy blind.  By having a few different breeds here at once, they can see for themselves what sort of character the breed has etc.  Hopefully by seeing different pigs and asking lots of questions,  potential pig owneres will gain a better insight into which breed is suitable for their needs and environment.

The Mangalitza are being purchased from Tracey Jaine in Doncaster who has been breeding quality stock for quite a while now and it was a pleasure to go and meet her pigs.

You can see our Mangalitza at Leicester Show at the beginning of May.
